After a well-deserved vacation, there’s nothing quite like feeling rested and recharged (almost as satisfying as smashing a new PR!). As someone who’s constantly on the go and tackling new challenges, you’re likely heading into your holiday with your workouts scheduled into your days… OR having them be the last thing on your mind. In either scenario, setting non-negotiables when it comes to your fitness and health doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are some strategic tips to help you facilitate your health during your vacay, as well as make for a smooth transition coming back.
1. Plan Your Time and Schedule Workouts Intentionally
You already know all about this, but we’re gonna say it anyway. Carving out specific days and times for your workouts, along with making sure to get the sleep and nutrition needed to help you execute your plan is crucial. Our team loves to get an early morning workout in, that way, you can focus on the vacation for the rest of the day. Balance is key!
2. Nutrition, Nutrition, Nutrition
At Method Fitness, we place a HUGE emphasis on nutrition (i.e. our Nutrition Coaching services). While maintaining your workout routine is important, nutrition can be one of the first things to go on vacation. Depending on the length of your trip, it is valuable to plan ahead and pack protein sources and/or any other non-perishable healthy snacks to make sure that you’re set for some of your nutrition. Also, it’s not a bad idea to look at the food options around where you’re staying. This is especially important if you’re traveling for work, or a performance related event (i.e. a marathon)!
3. Adjust Your “Back to Real Life” Schedule
With our personalized approach to fitness, we strongly believe that every client is different. You’ll likely want to get right back into your normal strength workout routine and nutrition schedule, but for those who need to ease back in after vacation, that’s totally ok. For us, sometimes the arrival back home after vacation is a welcome one, as it means we’re able to actively work towards our fitness goals again. Everyone is different, and although you might not think you need to ease in, your body might be calling for it. Listen to that!
Of course, these tips can apply to any vacation and return back to strength training. Want to get some short, effective workouts when you have little equipment? We’re always sharing new workouts to our Instagram, so make sure you check it out.
4. **Disclaimer**
If all of the above goes to s*** and you follow none of this, do not worry! While you most certainly won’t feel your best coming back to reality, it is impossible to undo all of your hard work in a matter of a couple weeks. Show up for your first session back, eat your first healthy meal, and you’ll be back on track in no time. 🙌🏼
